DYL: Repetition Assignment 1

We have started week three which heralds the beginning of repetition as a part of design. We will be taking repetition for two weeks, twice, pretty repetitive, eh? Haha! It is such a key part of design that I'm thinking I'll need the two weeks! Based on the sketch provided, this is my submission for this assignment:

Layout: Living by the lake

Journaling: (adapted from my Lemons2Lemonade blog) "There are many great reasons to live by the lake but one of the best are sights like these. Floating on the water on a day like today would be magnificent. Today is one of those spectacular fall days. A slight chill in the air. A bright cloudless sky. A bit breezy. The birds are singing. The leaves are rustling though not quite changing. One of those days where you just walk out the door and you feel the waning warmth of the usn, the need for a jacket and enough of a breeze that your nose starts to run. Wow, I wish I could just sit outside all day and enjoy it. What a brilliant start to our Thanksgiving weekend. October 11, 2008."

And, if anyone knows where I can get a Crop-O-Dile lesson - a visual one - let me know. I'm TERRIBLE at it! I read and re-read the instructions but boy, I'm C-O-D impaired :)

DYL: Real World Colour Assignment 2

To start, I have a confession, this assignment was supposed to use other colours - Cathy's real world, not Lee's real world. So, I'll get to Cathy's world later! Her world, this week, is pink, orange and brown. My world, this week, is green, brown and red: the colours of this course!

I was thrilled to get an opportunity to scrapbook a couple of photos I had taken of Claire and Louis a couple of months ago. We are using yet another size: an 8x8 double page spread. What do you think?

DYL: Asymetrical Balance Assignment 2

This time we were given a 2-page 12x12 sketch to continue with our understanding of asymetrical balance. I don't know that this would be a sketch I use again, well, maybe if I flipped it upside down. I've decided to follow more closely the assignments as assigned - with the measurements assigned - and then modify them based on what I've learned at a later date if I'm so inclined.

Journaling: "Gather seven kids together on a grey and foggy Cape Cod afternoon and tell them all to "get along and play". They have access to seventeen acres of wildlife, trails, ocean, bog, trees and back roads. What do they come up with? Hide and seek. I'm just happy everyone was found by the end of the day!"

DYL: Real World Design Assignment 2

We have been asked to find REAL WORLD design. My first assignment ... remember, my previous brain fart? was corrected to show the very symetrical entry to my home. This is the second assignment: to find an asymmetrical design in my real world.

I am exceedingly fortunate to live in a lovely home on a lovely lake in Ontario. At the end of the property is a humongous maple tree. The lot is flanked on both sides by high cedar and forsythia hedges well over my head - I'm 5'10" so that's pretty high. The view from my house is somewhat like a bowling alley, but boy, the view at the end is something special, asymmetrical, but still very special:

Another out-of-my-comfort-zone assignment. Why uncomfortable? I do not do single page layouts. What in the world do you put on the other side? I'll try to come up with some way to make this into a 2-pager without making it appear contrived in any way. In the meantime:

DYL: Real World Colour Assignment 1

Colour is an integral part of design. During the first week we were surprised (and I was delighted) to get a colour assignment. In this exercise we are given the colours and the sketch. It was somewhat uncomfortable as this was the very first time I made an 8 1/2 x 11 layout. My first attempt was a 2-page layout (of course, I really do not follow direction!) but then I felt like I had "cheated" so I went back and made a second layout more closely following the instructions!

You are, indeed, my much loved ... piece of work"

I did enjoy this sketch as it was developed as a 2-page layout; whereas, the previous assignment was not. This sketch lent itself well to some photos I had previously developed from our trip to Cape Cod this past summer. Claire was hamming it up for the camera.

It is so wonderful to see you in such close contact with your funny side. You are a certifiable goofball. It is definitely part of your charm."

I can't get enough of the enlargement layout! I have some photos of Claire and her baseball team waiting to be put into layout form, but in the meantime, I made one of Caden at one of his favourite activities: hockey lessons with George.

Design Your Life

As I've already posted, I am participating in the Design Your Life class over at Big Picture Scrapbooking and loving every minute of it, even more than I had anticipated. Be assured, I had very high expectations of this class!

I have been mulling this linarstudio blog for a long time and though it has been "up" it has not been running. Not the way I have it planned ... at least, in my head! I have been considering a logical "start" point for sharing my layouts and my discoveries. I've shared some discoveries, evidence can be found in all the great links to your right and left; but, no layouts, thus far. To limit confusion - mine, not yours! - I'm going to post each assignment in sequence.

Some of you may have seen these layouts on my Lemons2Lemonade blog, but I'm one of those start-from-the-start types so I apologise for any repeats, but we're only in week 2 of 12, better now than any later into the class, eh? :)

So, let's get started. Proof that I actually do scrapbook!
