The process of hockey is tedious. The game is great!
We packed up the four kids - only one of whom is "the hockey player" and headed to Stouffville right after school ended, pulling out the driveway at 3:45PM. Traffic moved along quickly enough. I had figured we could get to our destination then find someplace to feed the kids. I had fed "the hockey player" consistently throughout the day with snacks and lunch sent to school and a hearty after-school snack. We pulled into the local Boston Pizza around 4:45PM, in order to us to enjoy some sanity and not make the rink concession stand rich! In my life there is not much is worse than listening to my kids complaining about starvation so I make every effort to make sure it doesn't happen
Game time was 7:10PM and the boys were to be at the rink for 6PM. We pulled in around 5:50PM. Perfect.
All was said and done by 8:00, our boys won the game, quite decisively at 3-0 for the Rangers. Cole was quick out of the dressing room and we headed off to Swiss Chalet with his grandfather and cousins who had come to see him play.
We pulled into our drive at 10:45. No doubt the team continues to celebrate at Shoeless Joe's, but after six hours, I was just happy to get home. Judging from the snores coming from the seats behind, everyone would be happy to head to bed.
We look forward to a home game on Sunday. A slightly shorter, equally tedious, process. The game will be, no doubt, great!
The process of hockey is tedious. But fun. Especially those games our boys win.
