White Space
Do you have any in your home?
That was the challenge this week.
The good news first, this is our den, plenty of "white" space:
On the flip side, this is my laundry room (aka: bane of my existence). No white space to be found, though I can assure you that the floor is white subway tile, the counters and cupboards are white, as are the washer and dryer. Plenty of potential for white!
One of the many reasons I admire Cathy Zielske is her unapologetic honesty. Her photo? Her garage. No white space either.
I'll quote the assignment:
Quick! Can you find areas in your home that feature an excellent use of white space? Can you? I decided to grab my camera and see what I could find, and I've got to tell you-for a girl who loves white space as much as I do, what I found wasn't encouraging.
Too many piles and too much stuff. And here's the deal: when I have piles and messes around, I don't feel as relaxed as I could. Sure, part of that's the anal retentive side of me that loves clean rooms, but another reason is this: areas of open space make YOU feel restful.
Do you think my husband will buy the notion that white space and clean spaces are essential to my mental well-being?
While I try to work on that one, you try to find some good examples of white space in your living space. Take a shot or two and place them on the back of the Week 5 Title Page.
Feel free to post your Real World Design examples (or as in my case, lack thereof) to the gallery, as well as put your photo on the back side of this week’s 6 x 6 Title Card!
I'm so loving this course. If you didn't sign up, and it's offered again, take it
