In our lives the only constant is change. Even when you expect, and make every effort to live a simple static existence, so much happens to change your perspective and your space. That's life.
Thinking of things around me, I am thankful for the few events that stay the same: the traditions of my family. There are two events each year, to which we - all five daughters with our families - cannot miss. One is Christmas which is celebrated the week before holiday week and the other is Mother's Day.
Even with those traditions in place and practiced year after year, things never stay the same! Those in attendance change as relationships evolve, children arrive and then have the nerve to grow up, husbands come and go.
It is still nice to know that in early May each year our kids get to visit with all of the cousins and with their aunts and grandparents. The daughters get a chance to catch up and marvel over how our kids are all growing up. Photos are taken of all the different groups that make up our crazy extended family. The men all gather together and talk about men-stuff (I imagine, since I just see them gathered in another room!) Delicious food and wine is consumed topped off with fancy desserts. Flowers inside and out are absolutely stunning in their abundance. Small gifts are exchanged - if, of course, you don't forget them on the chair at your front door. Ahem, guilty!
What about you? What is your thankful thought today?
