The big closet purge with Chloé. It took a couple of hours, and a couple of bags, but it was worth it!
I live in chaos.
Over this past year I've implemented some changes around the house to reduce the clutter, but it seems as soon as one area is addressed another becomes the focus of my attention. A couple of projects were completed that have greatly added to my sense of calm: the installation of drawer inserts in my kitchen cupboards; the purchase of new slim hangers and the purge of my closet; and, the complete purge and organize of all child ephemera that had been housed in my room are now in big file boxes.
So, while I live in chaos, my kids do not seem to see it! Does that mean it's not there?
Sigh. (Yes, the mama kind of heavy sigh!)
Adding to my sense of chaos is an unnatural need to keep mindless everyday ephemera. I started "Project Life" a couple of years ago and in order to do it "the right way" I had to start keeping ticket stubs, food wrappers, cards and other things that are not in my nature to keep around. I've recently decided that I'm no longer willing to do "Project LIfe" like everyone else and I'm tired of the paper/garbage I have collected. I've converted to 100% digital and though I'm still in the habit of collecting ticket stubs, cards and other things, I'm trying to remember to toss the trash!
There are a lot of things that simply need to be purged. This list of 37 Things to Toss was just the beginning!
This is a busy time of year with musical competitions, baseball, rugby, softball and play rehearsals, but I'm hoping to get a few things completed:
- Organize and sweep out the underground garage - implement functional recycling system
- Tidy and make the back deck 100% functional - replace sectional and buy fun, bright pillows
- Buy planters for the front entry and back deck
- Clear out "extra" closets on 3rd floor (I have cases of Mona Vie - free to anyone who wants them, just pick them up!)
- Be ruthless in all bathrooms and clear out all cupboards
- Build, stain and install wall shelves for pictures up the main stairway
All projects completely do-able. I just need some muscle and cooperation!
I do believe that I'll feel like there is less chaos when I address the one file bin left - the undone "projects". Once I let go of those that are either repetitive or won't serve me in my new direction I think I'll feel less disheveled.
