VACATION IN YOUR OWN HOMETOWN
Over our March Break our plan was to take a few day trips around our town. Take in some things we had never done before.
The assignment: What do you love to do in your hometown?
Simple. I like to live in my hometown.
It took a very long time, but in the last couple of years I finally feel like I belong here in my town, the town in which I've chosen to raise my kids and put down roots. It still feels a bit weird as I'm a big city girl having been raised in downtown Toronto where I would walk or take public transit wherever I wanted to go. There were theatres and museums and all kinds of cultural activities. My life was held within a few square kilometres and that was fine with me!
We moved out of the suburban, vehicle-required, area of town to the more urban core where we can walk to wherever we need to go. Groceries, easy. Restaurants are plentiful. Schools, dry cleaners, Starbucks, florist, post office, hairdresser, parks, rink, sailing/tennis club, all are within easy walking distance. It really is spectacular and exactly where we need to be for the stage we are at right now.
If I need to go to theatres, museums, art galleries and other cultural activities I am a 40-minute drive from what I consider to be my hometown, Toronto. In the meantime there is plenty to keep us active here in Oakville.
Happily, over the March Break, we were able to take in the best of both locations with great food, concerts, plays and performances, art galleries and art competitions, spa days and discovering new restaurants. Lots of fun!

Like Bree Hester, I believe you choose to be happy. Sure there are bad (out of your control) things that happen, but how you handle them is completely up to you. Your choices are your responsibility - there is no blame, no shame, no nothing but accountability. Your attitude is your decision. I choose to be happy. Happy within the context of not wearing the proverbial rose-coloured glasses or any expectation that those who populate my life have made the same choice :) Last October, Bree put together 31 DAYS TO A HAPPIER YOU and, armed with her PDF, I'm using March - that dreary time between winter and spring that seems to drag on forever - to make the conscious choice to be happy every day this month!
