With the longest day of the year comes dreams of hazy and hot days ahead.
Generally, this is not my preferred season. If the heat could come without sweat - or bugs - I'd be all for it, but alas, summer in Southern Ontario doesn't happen that way. I tend to spend my time in a nice shady spot - or inside with the air conditioning wearing (ironically) a sweater.
We have a few plans for our time away from school. Ten weeks of bliss. Aside from my weather woes, I really enjoy this time to get to know my kids, though with them getting older, I feel - keenly - the lack of structure and pushing of limits.
We're looking forward to:
Enjoying Baseball Games & Tournaments, Football Games and Stage Performances
Riding bikes, blowing bubbles and swinging on park swings
Engineering Camps at a local university
Theatre Camps - two weeks each at two different camps
Summer School for Math (Credit) Courses
Enjoying lazy lunches on the Jonathan's patio
Our annual holiday in Cape Cod
A Theatre Trip to Stratford
Days rowing & paddling on local rivers
Computer Camps
French & Math headstart programs
Days at Canada's Wonderland, Niagara Falls and Marineland
Barbeques and fun with friends
Rounds of golf with new clubs
Visits with the cousins - and not just because they have a pool!
The spitting of watermelon seeds, licking of ice cream cones and sipping icy drinks
Watching Downton Abbey to find out what the fuss is all about
I anticipate a lot of time will be spent in the truck and a lot of late nights will be spent waiting for children to return home.
I am hoping there will also be plenty of time for me to lounge around and read, rest up and prepare for the next school year. In ten weeks I'll have all four of my children at one school - for one year.
In the meantime, here's to a full and fun ten weeks ahead!
What are your plans? If you want to know what others are up to, head on over to Ali Edwards' blog and check out the links in her Summer Manifesto article. Truly inspiring!

I just remembered, through the winter, I was so looking toward summer that I made a "Subway Poster" on a particularly cold day, in a winter with very few! This is what I came up with:
It's a 5x7 print. Go ahead, download it!
What are your favourite things to do in the summer? Any plans?
