Last fall there was an inspiring article (are there any other kind?) over at Carolyn Rubenstein's blog, A Beautiful Ripple Effect. It was an idea she had gleened elsewhere about writing a MIGHTY LIST. A brain dump of about 100 things you want to accomplish before you are unable to accomplish anything else :) Real big dream-to-goal things, not a mundane laundry list of chores.
That was last October! Then life, as it so often does, got in the way. I was recently reminded of this idea and since I've thought about it off and on, collected other lists, considered short- and long-term goals and think I've finally come up with something resembling what would be considered my own MIGHTY list - well, a start anyway:
- Set up a regular annual April vacation at Canyon Ranch in Tucson
- Learn to cook, properly, from start to finish
- Take a painting class - watercolours first - then oil and acrylic
- Finalize the divorce
- Turn my new home into exactly what I need it to be
- Create a Blurb book - a big huge gorgeous coffee table tome - then create another
- Design and run an Etsy store
- Keep my Project Life up-to-date
- Read ALL of the books on the school reading list
- Be a vegetarian for a week, and then, maybe a month
- Stop eating and drinking refined sugar
- Take a cruise with stops in Morocco, Turkey and Italy for sure
- Write - and publish - a book
- Have my home smudged
- Hang all of my artwork, put away all of the books, organize the craft and photography stuff
- Determine (at least) 50 must-watch movies and then watch with my kids
- Choose my favourite blog posts and put them into book form
- Lose the weight, enough to feel good again
- Put together ALL of my creative projects in various stages of 'begun'
- Post those projects
- Replace the nasty builder toilets
- Organize all of my photos and digital art (30,000+ files) in iPhoto
- Fix and cull all of the categories on my blog
- Update the blog with a new look
- Create the perfect lemonade
- Plant a dogwood in my front garden
- Swim, every day, because I love it
- Find someone who brings out the best in me
- Plan (and execute) Claire's birthday - on 20-12 2012
- Submit 10 "guest posts" for publication consideration
- Update and submit my resumé
- Watch the opera - MET showings - at Silvercity
- Switch from BlackBerry to iPhone
- Take golf lessons - then golf
- Hire a weekly cleaning service
- Start playing tennis again
- Write a cookbook for my kids of all our favourite meals
- Clear out the storage locker
- Continue to model the behaviour I want to see in my children
- Model better
- Take a creative writing course
- Maybe even go back to school and take the courses I should have taken the first time around
- Take monthly trips in to Toronto, with the kids, and take advantage of what is available: ROM, AGO, sports events, restaurants - oh so much!
- Go indoor skydiving
- Travel by train: one month Southern Europe, one month Northern Europe and the UK, one month Canada, one month Russia and Scandinavia
- Travel by car: one month through the U.S.
- Volunteer for a month or two in Africa
- Put together a library of all the creative courses I've taken - and finish the projects
- Feel rested and 100% well
- The biggest unattainable dream in my life, ever: have an article published by Vanity Fair magazine
This list-in-progress is exactly what I had planned, a brain dump - in no particular order - of the things I'd like to accomplish. The big things. The things that have been weighing on me for a while.
