Every day my kids are given the opportunity to represent themselves and our family. I'm happy (and relieved) to say that they do that well, almost all the time.
Occasionally they have earned the right, through academics and sport, to represent their school, our town and our province.
Rarely will they ever have the opportunity to represent their country.
This weekend marks one of those rare occasions.
Cole and his hockey team are representing Canada at the Nations Cup being held in Stratford, Ontario (about a 90 minute drive West), with five other Canadian teams. They will be facing six teams representing the United States. In hockey terms, and life terms, this is a big deal.
This may never happen again.
So excuse my absense. I have hockey to cheer. And photograph.
But I will leave you with a little video which, if you don't watch hockey, will either explain why my boy (and, indeed, whole family) love it so much, or leave you simply shaking your head:
Rest assured, all evidence of Cole's concussion has cleared and we babied him for an extra week just to be sure. He's back on the ice and I'm thankful - he was going stir crazy and driving us all to distraction! Go Rangers! Go Canada!
