I REFUSE TO SACRIFICE MEMORIES WITH MY SON BECAUSE OF A SOFT TUMMY : Which is how Jessica Turner has approached her tummy issues this summer.
And I say, good for you, Jessica!
(Please note: this post has no photo)
My reality is the same as a lot of mums: I'm not in the photos because I'm taking the photos. Now, I might be taking the photos in order to increase my chances to not be in them, but that's a discussion for another time ;) I have to say, when my kids were little, I wasn't in the photo simply due to logistics; one parent, four kids.
Am I sad that I wasn't? Not really.
I know it isn't the popular belief but I really believe children remember their parents in their minds eye at a certain stage in time, a frozen period where they remember how each person in their life looks and the accompanying small detail: mama's laugh, daddy's hug, grampy's "look" and nana's gentle nudge. My dad will forever have dark hair on the longish side and wear over-large 80s frames. When he calls on the phone that is the image in my head. I don't need a photo to remind me.
That's not to say that you shouldn't include yourself in photos. But if for whatever reason you feel you can't, don't sweat it. The kids love ya and they'll never forget you in their minds eye. Ever.
