FULL MOON WALKS : Suzanne Schoenfelder shared a lovely family tradition of taking walks under the full moon. It was a family outing that became a consistent event each month, or at least, each full moon. A Blue Moon even, when there were two full moons in one month.
I can see this being a fun event, especially now that my kids are older and can stay up to enjoy the full moon. (I've always been an "early-to-bed-early-to-rise" kind of mum.) Often we have sat out on the deck and watched the full moon rise over the lake. Glorious. This walk idea is very appealing as a family event. I have always been interested in Jamie Ridler's Full Moon dreamboards. Maybe I can somehow incorporate the two?
(Years ago, when I was in grade 5, we had a school musical called Little Mary Sunshine in which there was a song "Once in a Blue Moon" and now I can't get the song out out of my head!)I've often shied away from anything that has to do with the full moon as my children seem to function under the influence of our lunar friend. This is not a good thing. They can be quite "off". I'm sure every kindergarten teacher will tell you the same thing - I can assure you, the behaviour continues well into teenagehood. I'm more apt to want to lock them up then let them loose in the neighbourhood! But, in my ongoing quest to try anything once, I am willing to go on my first Full Moon Walk. The best part? I don't have to wait long as the next full moon is TONIGHT! Not just any full moon, but a STRAWBERRY moon. Doesn't that sound magical? I've already told the kids and they seem to like the idea. I'm hoping to walk to the harbour and back, but hopefully we manage to make it past our driveway :)
I've also googled and found the upcoming dates:
Monday, July 26
Tuesday, August 24
Thursday, September 23
Saturday, October 23
Sunday, November 21
Tuesday, December 21
Mark your calendars and join in the fun, won't you?
What about you? Are you participating in Stories of Summer over at Ali Edwards blog? What a variety of ideas. So inspiring, just as I expected!
