Thursday brought with it snow and an abnormally early start to our day. I left with Cole for an 8:30AM game in St. Catharines - about an hour drive away. We had to be there an hour early as we are for all hockey games. We were out the door by 6:15AM. This is a photo of the holly bush outside our front door. The light came from the headlights of the truck.
Years ago, before any of my children played hockey, I was very disapproving of those who pulled their kids out of school for hockey tournaments. How could hockey be more important than education? Just another example of "never say never".
Now that I have my two boys in hockey, though I would much prefer them not miss school, if a tournament is scheduled on a Thursday and Friday, how do you let the team down by not participating? Especially once you leave the ranks of house league where things are far more equal and democratic, as it should be, and roles are less defined. Fortunately (though Cole is not that thrilled about it!), I have received all of his missed lessons from his teachers. I've even received a few e-mails asking about how his team is doing. I love that they're interested! Love technology even more :)
It was really hard to earn a spot in the International Silver Stick tournament, our boys played a few very strong local teams at the Regional event. The international had been a bit of an easy go, until this morning. Our Rangers ran into a very tough team from Huntsville, Alabama with a goalie who has either puck-repellent built into his gear, or something equally magical. He was incredible. I hated to see them lose, but someone had to win. I was happy that our Ranger boys prevailed the 2-1 nailbiter!
We head to the finals tomorrow. Another 8:30AM game.
Go Rangers!
