All I ever wanted to be was a good mum. Fourteen years ago you arrived and gave me that opportunity. You were so small, so white, so observant, so quiet, so needy, so loved. You have been everything I could have ever wanted and more!
Here on your 14th birthday are the first 14 things that come to mind when I think of you:
You are kind
You are intelligent
You are generous
You are spirited
You are stubborn
You are creative
You are quirky
You are edgy
You are talented
You are athletic
You are quick tempered
You are good humoured
You are fastidious
You are authentic
Every day, whether in a good mood after a particularly fun day with your friends or suffering from adolescent angst (or the insufferable teasing of your sibs), there is always some of that little girl who peeks through and gives me a hug, or a twinkle in what is a hint of a smile, or even better, a full out belly laugh.
Thank you for being so patient with me. Thank you for being so willing to work through all (well, almost all) of your adventures, challenges and fears together. I've enjoyed every minute of it, I hope you have, too.
My children couldn't ask for a better big sister.
Your dad and I couldn't ask for a better baby girl.
